Progress on Autumn Projects

There has been progress on the Autumn Projects.

Work has recommenced on the pond that was dug out by digger three weeks ago.

Here is the action, step-by-step!

The soil is tamped down and then a layer of sand put in to protect the liner from sharp stones

Next, layers of old carpet go in to further protect the liner.

Some water goes in to hold everything in place

A sacrificial liner goes next to protect the liner from above

Some York stone is laid to provide a solid surface to stand close to the water, and a cobble beach made either side to allow animals to get in and out

Starting to lay more York stone at the back to secure the liner

Nearing completion

As well as all that excitement, we spent a happy couple of hours putting up bird boxes. Three of these were hung on posts by the original pond as part of our Tree Sparrow project, in an attempt to lure them to this little part of East Kent:

Still not worked out where and how to put the Little Owl box up and lots of trees to get planted, but progress is being made.
